Community Care and Inreach

We honor the full sacramental ministries of our church as centered in the office of the priest. We see the pastoral work of our parish, however, as the concern of both clergy and laity. Indeed several of our ministries have begun as lay initiatives. We value the diversity and inclusivity of our church community:

Hospitality: We have long been known as “The Friendly Little Church on Broadway.”  At St. James, hospitality begins the moment a newcomer walks through the doors and is offered a welcome bag containing information on the parish. We follow up with refreshments after the late service on Sunday mornings, monthly fellowship dinners, and potluck luncheons.   Read more

Eucharistic Visitors: Administer Holy Communion to persons unable to attend services.   Read more

Daughters of the King: An international order of Episcopal women whose purpose is to help strengthen the spiritual life of the parish. Our chapter coordinates a prayer chain and serves families in times of grief or crisis.   Read more

Episcopal Church Women: Ministry of service and fellowship which gives to a variety of mission projects. Special fund-raisers include the annual Stars of St. James dinner to recognize the many contributions of St. James’ women, the holiday season market of Festive Foods made by ECW members, and the yearly shower for Camp Billy Johnson, a camp for underprivileged youth sponsored by the diocese.   Read more
