Lectors and Chalice Bearers
Lectors and Chalice Bearers read the scripture, lead prayers, and help serve Communion during services.
Chalice Bearers are trained and then licensed by the Diocese to help the clergy in the serving of the wine at Holy Eucharist. We currently have 23 Chalice Bearers. Each Sunday one Chalice Bearer reads the Prayers. Scheduling of the Chalice Bearers is done on a rotating basis.
A Lector is defined as a member of a congregation who assists the priest during the Liturgy. Their role is to walk to the lectern or to the front of the Nave and give Bible readings. At St. James, we have approximately 30 lectors who participate on a rotating basis and assist with the worship service. Training is involved and the schedule is made monthly.
