Prayer Shawl Ministry

Begun with love, knitted and blessed with prayer, shawls are given to those in need or having a memorable celebratory event. Recipients say they have actually experienced being enfolded in the love of God as the shawl is wrapped around them. Instruction is given at no cost for non-knitters who would like to participate in this ministry. ―Contact: Evelyn Miller

THE PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY NEEDS YOU!

CALLING ALL KNITTERS, CROCHETERS
AND WANNABES!

St. James Prayer Shawl Ministry began in March 2006. Many of you may remember the worship service when our beloved Jim Muir received the first St. James Prayer Shawl. Jim told me often between that presentation and his death how much his prayer shawl meant to him as he put it around himself during his daily devotions; he said he "felt God's love surrounding him". Since that first prayer shawl was knitted the ministry has crocheted, knitted, or woven, prayed over and blessed around 170 more: each with its own story, each one a blessing to its recipient and its maker.

St. James Prayer Shawl Ministry meets the first Saturday of each month at 10:00 am in the Library/Hopper Room. We welcome knitters and crocheters of all skill levels, ages, and genders. If you want to learn how to do either craft, we'll teach you without charge for this ministry. We have all supplies to make prayer shawls available at our meetings. Just bring yourself ...and a friend. The patterns are simple and easy to get into even if its been a long time since you've crocheted or knitted.

The ministry and the meetings are centered on prayer: from the selection of yarn...through the making of the shawl...to who the recipient is to be...to the blessing of the shawl...to its presentation. These shawls are always given, never sold; although we gratefully receive donations to the Prayer Shawl Ministry through St. James to help provide supplies.

If you think you may be interested, please come to a meeting one first Saturday. You will be most welcome! If you would like more information, there are brochures in both tract racks or call Evelyn Miller.
