Friends and Neighbors,
We continue celebrating Easter as we move into a month full of celebrations and transitions. I am looking forward to just hanging out with folks this Saturday night at our spaghetti dinner. You can find details about that in this email. Please mark your calendars for the annual Justice Knox Celebration on May 19 from 6:30 PM- 8:30 PM at First Presbyterian Church. We will have dinner and share stories about the next steps. You will also be asked to consider making an investment in the work of Justice Knox. I hope that you will consider giving to this important ministry.
You have heard from parishioners about various ministries at St. James during our "Ministry Sprints" on Sunday morning. Our congregation has many opportunities to serve. In a parish, many of the ministries you might serve in are things that keep the life of the place going. I am so grateful that some of you tend our grounds, make coffee, and iron the altar linens. Those things that we often look right past are important offerings that make this place welcoming. I would say that welcoming is part of the mission of the church: "The mission of the Church is to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ." (BCP p. 855)
You bring your gifts to this one ministry of restoration to relationship with God. As we celebrate resurrection may we also practice resurrection. For me, that means acting with hope even when things seem hopeless. It we means that we celebrate life and goodness in the places we find it. It means that I am open to the ways that Christ is present to me. May we celebrate not only with our lips but with our lives. Peace,
Fr. John Mark
